I have an Industrial Engineering Degree. I want to be an Executive Assistant. 131 IQ?

Fire Halo asked:

I have 2.5 years Office Management experience in a small Chiropractic Clininc that is actually my brother-in-law’s practice. I would never tell the companies that I apply to that he is my brother-in-law. I am a genius (131 IQ) and can learn any industry, and in 2.5 years I have mastered the Chiropractic insurance industry. I actually know everything that anyone can know without actually treating the patiens (I even give Chiropractic adjustments to my doctor). Point is, I can be valuable in any industry, but in 4 months I cannot find an office management or executive assistant (WHAT I REALLY WANT) job in Manhattan, NY. I had my resume professionally done 3 weeks ago. I am pulling my hair out. I feel worthless and that I got the wrong degree. Should I just kill myself??

when you go for a job interview make sure you lead off with that genius line and then follow it up with the fact that you aspire to be a secretary.

I’m sorry – I really do not intend to be cruel, but with an 131 IQ, you wouldn’t be having that kind of problem.

NO – Don’t shoot yourself. Your hair will grow back as long as you don’t pull out your scalp with it. :-)

131 IQ is hardly a genius, you should know that. Why don’t you try doing some real work, you sound far to mental to do what you imagine you want to.
Only people who realise how much they cost can be of any real value to anyone.

First, get over yourself with the IQ. There really isn’t a section on your resume that states this is there? And if so, this could be offending or at least insulting a few prospective employers. Second, 4 months really isn’t that long to look for a job so be patient. Lastly, don’t get your resume “professionally done” again. It’s a waste of money.

Are you trying to get into a particular field, is that why you don’t want to go further in the Engineering field?

Anyway it seems like you have some experience in the field. Getting established in a new place sometimes takes a lot of time. I’ve been an Executive Assistant and it can help to have contacts. To do that why not temp. Get with a good agency that pays appropriately for someone with your skills (DO NOT let them short change you) — Also try posting your resume (sans address) on Craigslist, it can actually be useful. If you have any specific questions, drop me an email via Yahoo, I might be able to give you some leads to different companies both agencies and standard companies.
